The new EMCO Remote Shutdown version 5 is aimed at helping network administrators to manage Windows PCs across corporate networks remotely from a centralized console. EMCO Software Announces the New Version of Remote Windows Registry Backup and Editing Software

The new version of this tool feature an improved remote registry export operation that can export the content of selected registry keys or the entire registry from one or multiple remote computers and save the exported data into a local storage. The latest releases of the application introduce a new feature that allows defining the list of registry keys that should be skipped during export.

"The new export functionality significantly simplifies Windows registry export and backup tasks performed by network administrators on a regular basis. Usually, administrators need to export the entire registry with the exception of certain keys that store passwords or some specific settings. Now these keys can be skipped during export. New EMCO WakeOnLan Software Helps IT Administrators to Start Using the Wake-on-LAN Technology Company-Wide

REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- March 23, 2012 -- EMCO Software has delivered a free update for EMCO WakeOnLan 1.2 allowing running the application on Windows PCs with installed .NET Framework 4.0. The new version of the application is compatible with the latest versions of .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.0 and can work on systems running .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and above. EMCO Software has also announced a future support of .NET Framework 4.5, which will be distributed by default with the upcoming Windows 8 and Windows 8 Server operating systems. The compatible version of EMCO WakeOnLan will be released before the Windows 8 Release to Manufacturers (RTM), which is expected later on this year.

EMCO WakeOnLan 1.2 is designed to help network administrators and IT professionals using the Wake-on-LAN (WOL) technology in networks of any sizes, including small office, enterprise and distributed networks. The free version of EMCO WakeOnLan is the first and only freeware solution optimized for managing groups of computers across a network. Network administrators can use it for free to power on computers remotely at the start of a working day, to install security patches and updates, or in other cases when computers should be turned on remotely.

EMCO WakeOnLan works as a Windows application with GUI allowing network administrators to entirely automate Wake-on-LAN tasks. It automatically performs all the steps that should be made to wake up selected computers, including network enumeration, collecting MAC addresses from network computers and sending WOL packets. Unlike various command-line WOL utilities, EMCO WakeOnLan is capable of detecting MAC addresses of remote PCs automatically using different methods suitable for different situations and network environments. It saves administrators the effort of writing scripts to extract the MAC addresses information and maintaining the MAC addresses database in case the network environment is changing. For IT departments adopting Wake-on-LAN technology in large enterprise networks, EMCO Software offers a commercial version of EMCO WakeOnLan. EMCO Software Introduces Scheduling Functionality in its Network Hosts Monitoring Solution

REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- March 13, 2012 -- EMCO Software has announced the availability of a free update for EMCO Ping Monitor 4. The released version 4.7 is aimed at allowing IT professionals and network administrators to use the application 24/7 in an autopilot mode in order to supervise business-critical network connections to servers and network hardware. Using the functionality introduced in the new release, network administrators can define a schedule with time periods when the network hosts should be monitored and when the monitoring should be paused. It allows running EMCO Ping Monitor in a 24/7 mode and automatic handling of situations when particular hosts are turned off for maintenance or powered off on weekends. The application will keep watching the statuses of all the hosts except for those that are turned off according to the monitoring schedule.

EMCO Ping Monitor is a Windows host monitoring application that tracks connections to multiple network hosts simultaneously by executing pings (ICMP echo requests) regularly at defined time intervals. It collects statistics for every executed ping to calculate high, low and average response times, response time deviation and other parameters that allow evaluating the connection quality and stability. When EMCO Ping Monitor fails to receive ping replies from a host for sequential ping requests, it detects a connection outage and sends notifications about the problem. The application can send e-mails, show a Windows Tray alert and play sounds in case of detected connection status changes, including connection loss and restore events. All notifications are customizable to allow network administrators, for example, to send different e-mails to different recipients in case of outages of different monitored hosts.

In the new version, it is possible to configure the application to repeat notifications until the problem is resolved. For example, the application can play a sound notification in loop while connection to the monitored host is lost. For instance, a network administrator can write a custom script to send an SMS notification through a mobile phone connected to the PC where Ping Monitor is running. EMCO Software Releases an Improved Version of MSI Package Builder Tool

REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- February 13, 2012 -- EMCO Software, a provider of software solutions for computer network management, has announced today the availability of a new version of the MSI Package Builder tool targeted at creation of MSI installation packages for the Windows platform. Version 4.5 includes new features that help network administrators and IT professionals to create MSI packages for Windows x86 and x64 platforms. Also, the new version allows MSI authors to specify advanced actions that will be automatically executed before and after the MSI installation and uninstallation.

Windows-based MSI packages are platform-dependent and can be generated either for the x86 or x64 platform. Packages generated for the x86 platform can be deployed on both Windows x86 and x64 OS's. Packages generated for the x64 platform can be deployed on the Windows x64 OS only. MSI Package Builder 4.5 includes an option that allows selecting a target platform for the generated MSI; thus MSI authors can generate an MSI package for either the x86 or x64 platform depending on their needs using the same installation project.

EMCO Software Introduces a New Freeware Tool for Auditing Installed Software in Microsoft Networks

This tool is designed to help network administrators and IT professionals to audit software installed on Windows computers in their organizations. It allows extracting software inventory information from all remote PCs connected to a local network into a centralized software inventory database. Using Network Software Scanner, the IT staff can check the list of installed programs and updates on every PC and export the required inventory data to a file.

EMCO Releases a New Version of WakeOnLan Tool with Enterprise-Level Features

REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- August 22, 2011 -- EMCO Software, a provider of software solutions for computer network management, announced today a new release of the EMCO WakeOnLan utility targeted at providing new features for corporate networks. Both free and professional versions of the WakeOnLan utility for Windows help network administrators to turn on network computers remotely using the Wake-on-LAN technology. Version 1.1 extends the functionality of the professional version by offering an option of a quick automatic extraction of MAC addresses for all network computers and providing a better integration with the Active Directory.

A network packet used to wake up a PC remotely using the Wake-on-LAN technology includes the PC's MAC address as a unique identifier. MAC addresses can be extracted automatically from network PCs when they are turned on, but for large networks it can take a while for all MAC addresses to be collected. The new feature introduced in version 1.1 allows extracting MAC addresses for all network PCs regardless of their current state from Microsoft DHCP. Even for large networks, this process can only take several seconds.

"Automatic MAC addresses extraction from Microsoft DHCP server brings the WakeOnLan utility to a new level. Our corporate customers who have tens of thousands of computers in their networks can complete Wake-on-LAN preparation steps including MAC addresses collection within only a few minutes. They had to spend hours on this task before", Thorarinn Oskarsson, CEO at EMCO Software, said.

Another new feature available in the professional version of WakeOnLan 1.1 is an option to define target PCs for Wake-on-LAN tasks using an Active Directory query. This query extracts a list of PCs from the Active Directory based on predefined conditions. It is possible to execute the Wake-on-LAN operation for all PCs in a particular Organization Unit in a domain, for computers with certain names, etc. It is also possible to use complex conditions and define queries through a visual editor.

"This feature is very useful for scheduled Wake-on-LAN tasks. It helps network administrators to define a condition once and then execute the task for the always up-to-date set of PCs, which are managed through the Active Directory", Emil Thor Jonsson, CTO at EMCO Software said. "Before, administrator had to configure Wake-on-LAN targets manually and update configuration every time a new computer was added or removed from the network. Now this effort can be spared", he added.

EMCO Announces a New Freeware to Access the Command Prompt on Network PCs

REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- June 22, 2011 -- EMCO Software, a provider of software solutions for computer network management, announced the release of a new EMCO Remote Console freeware utility. This Windows utility with a graphic user interface allows network administrators and other IT staff to obtain access to the command-line prompt on Windows computers located in local networks. Remote Console can be used to run processes and execute Windows commands on remote computers. Consoles that access remote computers provide a set of features similar to the local command-line prompt.

Remote Console is a utility with a graphic user interface that provides access to network computers. It can scan a local network to detect available computers and display them on the screen. A network administrator can select a PC to connect to and open an interactive command-line prompt. Access to remote computers requires administrative permissions, whereas it's possible to specify different credentials to access different domains, workgroups and computers.

Network administrators can open multiple consoles for the same PC or different PCs and execute Windows commands and processes remotely. Such interaction with a remote computer is performed in the background and doesn't interrupt the remote user's session. Every opened console is represented on the screen as a separate tab and offers typical features available in a local command-line session, such as interruption of the current task, re-execution of previously entered commands, etc.

"Remote Console is a light-weight network application, since it doesn't require installation of client modules and configuration of remote computers. Only administrative permissions are required to access computers remotely. EMCO Releases a Free MAC Address Scanner Utility for Windows

REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- June 17, 2011 -- EMCO Software, a provider of software solutions for computer network management, announced availability of a new freeware utility for network administrators. The new tool from EMCO called MAC Address Scanner has been created for the Windows platform and designed to help administrators and IT staff to detect network card MAC addresses of computers available in a local network.

A MAC address is a unique identifier of the network card assigned to the device by its manufacturer. This address is used for some network operations to identify the target computer. For example, Wake-on-LAN tools generate a wake-up network packet using MAC addresses of the target PCs, so administrators have to specify the MAC address before initiating the operation. This address can be extracted locally, but there is a lack of solutions that can help to collect MAC addresses from network computers into a centralized database.

The free MAC Address Scanner utility is designed to help administrators to extract MAC addresses from remote PCs. It is created as a Windows utility with a graphic user interface that allows scanning available network computers and extracting MAC address information remotely. Collected information can be exported to a file and used by external tools such as Wake-on-LAN and other utilities that require MAC address input.

"MAC addresses detection for remote computers is one of frequent routine tasks for network administrators that usually take more time than expected. Usually, administrators have to write scripts to perform this task, but that approach can fail for some configurations. There is no single universal approach to extract the MAC address info that will work in 100% of cases, hence to get a result, administrators have to utilize multiple approaches, but it can take a lot of time", Thorarinn Oskarsson, CEO at EMCO Software, said. "Our MAC Address Scanner uses four different approaches of MAC addresses detection applied depending on the particular network configuration. If one approach fails, another one is used to extract the MAC address from every computer", he added.

EMCO Software Offers a Brand-New Solution for Waking Up Computers Over a Network

This utility is based on the Wake-on-LAN (WOL) technology and allows network administrators to wake up network computers remotely. Although WakeOnLan was created for the Windows platform, it allows sending Wake-on-LAN packets to computers running Windows, Linux, MAC OS and other platforms so as to wake them up.

The WakeOnLan utility provides network administrators with all features required to use the Wake-on-LAN technology in large corporate networks.
